President's Message 10th May 2011

Veteran Golfers

What a great day to play golf at Mareeba Golf Club. The fairways had  plenty of run, just off the fairways even more run, the greens were deceivingly fast, I found the ball would not stop closer than a meter from the hole. The greens were in fanastic condition. Thank you Mareeba Golf Club for the course preparation and the hospitality.

The event was sponsored by  Steggles/Baiada, Mareeba, thank you. That means plenty of Vets winners are having Chicken for dinner tonight. Because the prizes are frozen chickens, those winners who attended the presentation have taken their prizes, the winners who were unable to attend the presentation will be rewarded with Golf Balls instead. (The chickens, if left with me, would be a bit messy by the next Tuesday or when I see you next)

I would like to remind members of the future events: Next Tuesday 17th May we are playing at Gordonvale Golf Club followed by Tuesday 24th May at Cairns Golf Club and Tuesday 31st May at Atherton Golf Club. These three games see the completion of the Drummond Driver Competition, Craig from Drummond Golf will be attending Mareeba Golf Club on 7thJune to present the Driver to the winner. I would like to see a good number of members attend the presentation  to show Drummond Golf we appreciate their sponsorship and novel way of sponsoring a competition over 9 weeks.

Two other events are being played in our Region in the coming months The 2011 Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Assoc. 36 Hole Open, will be played on the 27th and 28th June at Cairns Golf Club. It is a stroke event and will be played in Divisions. It will be held in conjunction with the our normal event on 28th June at Cairns. Players in the Open 36 Holes (27/6 & 28/6) will play stroke, players in the 18 Hole event (28/6) will play Stableford.  Players in the 36 Hole Open will need to nominate and pay the entry fee by 21st June.

Far North Queensland Veteran Golfers Assoc. Atherton Open at Atherton Golf Club on the 7th and 8th July, this is also a 36 Hole event with a good array of prizes.

Regards
Ross Bird
