Veteran Golfers
Next Tuesday 2nd August, Gordonvale Golf Club are hosting our event. It is a Single Stableford and is sponsored by one of our Members and Committee Member Colin Johannsen. This is Colin’s second year on Committee, he is seen each week determining the days results (and does a good job).
The course is in good condition, the people in the know tell me the greens have improved a lot since we were there a couple of weeks ago. The rain a couple of weeks ago has greened the course up. I always look forward to playing at Gordonvale, open your shoulders up on the Racecourse, but really tighten your game over the back with the trees.
Cairns Golf Club would like to apologise for the lack of food at our game on Tuesday. Bill Leonard wrote an email to Gerry Casey the new Manager , pointing this fact out. Gerry has responded very positively and has committed to giving the Vets the catering arrangements Wednesday Sporters and Saturday Golfers have. In all fairness, Gerry has only been there a short time, and I think we surprised him with the 159 field. So remember next time we are playing at Cairns there will be food available. Thank you, Bill and Gerry.
It is getting to the time of year the committee is starting to put next year’s Program together. If you know of or have good contacts of people or businesses who would like to sponsor an event or number of events next year, please see either myself or Lou Siedle. We will let you know our criteria and expectations. We have about 40 games for the year so there are quite a few spots to cover.
Tuesday 9th August is the first round of the Championships at Mareeba Golf Club it is a stroke event, followed by 2nd and final round of the championships at Half Moon Bay Golf Club on Tuesday 16th August
