President's Message

Veteran Golfers,

The committee are getting over the hectic period leading up to and running our first Open event last Monday and Tuesday. Although the weather didn’t treat us well the event was a huge success. Thank you to the core organizing committee of Lou Siedle, Roger Smith, June Willmot, Colin Johannsen and Colin McDowall, they all worked very hard to make it the success it was.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Thank you to our sponsors for the two days, on Monday Highgrove Bathrooms at Lyons Road were the sponsors and Tuesday and the 36 Hole event was sponsored by Savannah Lifestyle Resorts Mareeba. Please if you are thinking of renovating your bathroom, go and talk with Highgrove and tell them you are from the Vets. Also if you are looking for a lifestyle change, talk to Melody at Savannah Lifestyle Resorts about the exciting development at Mareeba, it may well be just what you are looking for.

We have taken some very good feedback, and the Open event will definitely be held each year at Cairns Golf Club, hopefully attracting more travelling veteran golfers in the future.

Well it is time to look to the future, next Tuesday, 5th July, Mossman Golf Club are hosting the FNQ Veteran Golfers. As I have mentioned before Mossman are hosting the FNQGA Championships on  the 9th and 10th July, so I expect the course to be in top condition when we play. It would be pleasing to see a large field at Mossman to contest the Single Stableford event. With all the Club Championships and Open day, it has been the stroke players paradise but I will be pleased to see a Stableford event.

Tuesday 12/7 is hosted by Half Moon Bay Golf Club, Single Stableford, 19/7 is hosted by Atherton Golf Club, Single Stableford, 26/7 is hosted by Cairns Golf Club, Single Stableford, 2/8 hosted by Gordonvale Golf Club, Single Stableford.

The 9th and 16th August see our Championships being played firstly at  Mareeba Golf Club 9/8 and Half Moon Bay Golf Club 16/8. Both events Stroke Championships, with our third stroke game on 23/8 at Atherton Golf Club for the Stanton Bailey Trophy.  Please be aware there are conditions for the Championship event they are on the backpage of our program but I will include them in here.

To be eligible to win the Championships a player must have been a financial member of the Association for a period of  2 months prior to the date set down for the playing of the Association’s Championships and have played in at least three events set out in the Association’s  Program prior to the Championships.

Hope to see you at all future events

Regards
Ross Bird
