President's Report

After a late storm passed over the day before & forecasts of more rain, I was a bit anxious whether the game was going to be on, but need not have worried as a call to the club confirmed all was well. The course was certainly in good condition, with the ball sitting well in the fairways & the greens running well, although there was water in some bunkers, which wouldn't have worried the good players. Congratulations to the greens staff.

This was the last game for 2011 & it was great to see 6 sponsors attending the lunch, 4 of whom played. Many thanks to all our sponsors; to Carlie Hatswell of Easylift for sponsoring the day with some lovely prizes which she presented; to Steve Buchanan of Bendigo Bank & Melody Lucas of Savannah Lifestyle Resorts; to Terry Buchanan who represented Lindsay Sinclair of Highgrove Bathrooms & played; to Andy Smith of NQ Co-op who also played and Craig Thompson of Drummond Golf who must surely have been impressed with my fine display of hacking!

We had 132 players, including Kay Mullins from Mareeba & John Drieberg from Gordonvale & one new member, Robin Tonks from Gordonvale. This brings our membership to 117 for the 2012 year.

Cairns golf club looked after us well with the bar staff hard pressed at lunch. Thank you. Thank you also to Nora who prepared the lunch & managed to squeeze us all in as well as seeing that everyone managed to have a good platefull. Also, thanks to June Willmot who was supposed to be one of a committee of three charged with arranging the meal, but who ended up a very capable committee of one!

Although this is our last game for the year, there are various other games available during the Tablelands Summer of Golf & I'll post their program to this blog soon, as well as our own for 2012. Meanwhile the Mareeba Golf Club Closing Day sponsored by Hungry Possum Wood Fired Pizza is fast approaching.(Saturday - 10th December 2011). If you haven't nominated yet, bookings are essential for the golf and festivities, so please contact the Club on 4092 1528. There is a time sheet for golf.
