RESULTS HALF MOON BAY TUESDAY 17 JUNE.

Early scuds may have tested the first few tee times this morning , but, the day turned out to be a very pleasant one for FNQVGA golfers who played a single stableford in Round 8 in the consistency series. The Yorkeys Knob course is in excellent condition, thanks to all staff associated with its preparation.

A good filed of 42 players (35 men 7 ladies) ignored the weatherman, and reaped the benefit. All grades required the use of the Australian ties system to decide the winners.

WE had three new members join up today, Carl Fox, Greg Althaus and  John King, all from Half Moon Bay- Welcome!

Once again we thank our major sponsor Drummond Golf Cairns. Why not drop in and checkout the new Alfred Street Manunda  location.

An excellent field of 56 FNQVGA golfers (44men and 12 ladies) shared the very well manicured Mareeba Golf Course with the ever increasing mob of macro-pods this morning. The green keeping group of Karl, Jim,  Rod, Michael, Enid and Bub et.al. are doing an outstanding job preparing the tableland course on the northern or drier end of the Atherton Tableland.

A special thanks to Brian who single-handedly opened the clubhouse, prepped the buggies, served the drinks and made everyone feel welcomed.

Today we had a repeat visitor from Gladstone, Russell Spencer, as well as a new member from HMB Mike MacManus, welcome to you both.

Oak Tree Cup 36 Hole Results

One of the highlights of the FNQVGA golfing year is the 36 hole Oak Tree Cup. A stableford competition held over two weeks and this year held at the Gordonvale Golf Club situated south of Cairns. Previously the Cup was held at Cairns, and earlier in the year making it susceptible to the wet season heat and rain. Last year the second round had to be post phoned and was eventually played in less than ideal conditions a week later. With the help and encouragement of Manager Glen Donovan from Oak Tree Retirement Village, Cairns we decided to move the event closer to the middle of the year. Because our Association championships are to be held in Cairns in 2025, it was decided to play the Cup at Gordonvale. Glen has indicated today that Oak Tree Retirement Village Cairns   will continue to sponsor into 2026.

A great field of 72 players took to the course this morning.
