President's Report & Results Half Moon Bay 1 Mar

83 men and 15 women played Half Moon Bay today and although the weather was a little threatening at first the sun broke through to give us a fine sunny day.

The sponsor for the event was GOLF WORLD OF CAIRNS and we thank them for the vouchers played for today and commend them to our members.

We also thank Half Moon Bay club for giving a carton of beer to be a prize drawn among those who stay for the presentations. The winner today was Deon Reddicliffe who took home the beer and a husband grinning like the proverbial “Cheshire cat”.
Manager Greg Ferry has indicated that this will be a regular feature when we play there so it may well pay to stay and socialise a little longer.

It gives us no joy to have to disqualify players for handing in a wrong card so please, please check your card before you sign and hand it in, especially if you have had a good score.

I have a left handed 9 iron which was found on the course today so give me a ring and I will be happy to return it.

All,

Our game next week is a single stableford at Half Moon Bay golf club & the course looks in great condition.

The game is sponsored by Golf World.

There's only one more relaxed game before we get started into rounds qualifying for trophies, so make the most of it to get the last of the holiday kinks out of your swings!

See you there.

PS We've just had in a flyer for the second International Golden Oldies World Golf Festival, the first being held last year in NZ (for which we received no notice).  It appears to be for players 40+.

It comprises 4 days of golf plus awards dinner in the Hunter Valley, NSW 18-24 Sep & details are at www.govsl.com/goldenoldies/golf at a cost of $750 per player or $1745 accommodated.

President's Report & Results Gordonvale 16 Feb

Today we played our first single event for the season and despite the 36 degrees forecast 71 men and 18 women teed off on a very playable Gordonvale course, thanks to a less than wet “wet season”.

We thank our sponsor CAPE YORK ACCOUNTING for providing the Drummond golf vouchers that the winners took home.

I would like to advise members that our next game is at Half Moon Bay on March 1st and remind you that carts are now available for the same hire fee that members pay, ie $30. If the season stays as hot as it has been then a cart may be a very good idea for us senior players.

Next Game Gordonvale 16 Feb

All,

Our game next Tuesday is at Gordonvale.

It is a single stableford, sponsored by Cape York Accounting.

The course is in good condition, apart from the rough in the drains, which you definitely do not want to be in as there is also water in them!  The rough generally is also quite thick, so stick to the fairways, or if you look like deviating, make sure you get a good line on the ball.

See you there.

Louis

PS  In case you have forgotten, Drummond Golf, as part of their sponsorship package, offer a joining fee to the Drummond Club of only $10 for lifetime membership, a saving of $29.95.

There are a number of personal benefits to becoming a member of the Drummond Club:
- price savings on in store products
- special rate green fees at over 100 courses across Australia

Also, FNQVGA receives a benefit based on numbers joining, which we have used as raffle prizes, so if you are already a member, please let Drummond Golf know you are a member of the Vets so we get the flow-on benefit.  (And, no, you do not get a refund of the full price you paid originally!)
