Presidents Report & Results for Tuesday 01 Dec 20

PRESIDENT REPORT –CAIRNS GOLF CLUB 01 Dec 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Cairns GC and there were 100 players consisting of 79 men & 21 ladies. Historically we always finish the year with a dinner, annual presentations and host our Sponors unfortunately due to COVID-19 we were unable to conduct our normal end of year function and were only able to present the day`s results and the annual trophy winners.

The course was in excellent condition, many thanks to Tim and his crew. Also a shout out to Ben, Brie & Chloe for getting us out and about and on time.

Our sponsor today was Stratford Painting Contractors and we were blessed with Gordon Perry`s (owner) presence for a game. Thanks Gordo and we appreciate your support to the Vets organisation. Don`t forget if anyone requires a paint job, call Gordo and he will look after you.

The FNQVGA have appreciated all of our 2020 sponsors and they are; Stratford Painting Contractors, Brothers Leagues Club, Cazaly`s AFL, Reef Casino, Drummond Golf, Oak Tree Retirement Village, Golf World & Cape York Accounting. Your support to the Vets has been outstanding and allows our senior citizens to play golf at an affordable price, we look forward to your support in 2021.

Doug and Andrina completed their tenure on the committee today and on behalf of all members we thank you both for your dedicated work over the past years.

The 2021 Program will be on the blog when we have heard from all of our sponsors and the program will then be complete. We return on the 16 Feb 21 at Mareeba but until then please support the Tablelands Summer of Golf Schedule (on the blog) with next week`s game at Millaa Millaa at 8.30 costing $15 pp.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone and we will see you all in 2021 and do it all again because we love it.

Presidents Report & results from Gordonvale GC 24 Nov 20

PRESIDENT REPORT –GORDONVALE GOLF CLUB 24 Nov 20

Hi Members,

Today`s game was a single stableford event at Gordonvale GC and there were 89 players consisting of 70 men & 19 ladies.

The course was dry and firm due to very little rain in the region however, the greens were excellent and the credit should go to the greens staff as they have obviously put in a lot of hard work, big scores below attest to that. The weather was great yet fairly hot but there was a breeze every now and then. Thanks to Belle for getting us out on time and for setting up the upstairs so we could conduct our 2020 AGM in the comfort of the aircon.

Our sponsor today was Cape York Accounting, once again they have supported the FNQVGA for years now and all members have appreciated their continued support.

The 2020 FNQVGA AGM was conducted today with no real issues. Retiring from the committee are Andrina Wilson, Doug Christison & Bob Billingham, members thanked them for their dedicated work and wished them well in their future endeavours. Welcomed on to the committee for 2021 are Ric Gooderham and Jane Taylor, we hope you enjoy your stay with us.

Next week`s game will be our final game for 2020 and it will be a single stableford event at Cairns GC and the sponsor will be Stratford Painting Contractors, this will not be our normal shotgun start, Xmas dinner, Presentation Day due to COVID-19, it will be as usual registration 6.30 and tee times commencing at 0700-0800 on both tees. Hopefully 2021 will be back to normal and we can then resume our regular Program including NTPs etc.

Louis Siedle`s Passing & Funeral Information

 Hi Members,

It is with much regret that I inform you that Louis Siedle passed away last night at 9pm at the Gordonvale Palliative Care Facility. Louis has had a very hard year with his health and it has been a very difficult struggle for him but he has finally moved on to the golf course in heaven where the greens are true and the fairways are lush.

Louis acted in every committee position on the FNQVGA Committee for many many years and was instrumental in getting this blog up and running. His leadership and guidance to me personally has been invaluable and I will miss him dearly. I have been informed that his service will be at the crematorium but unsure when, please check notices in the paper for further notification and if I am advised I will post a blog immediately.

I have just been advised that Louis will be cremated at the Mt Sheridan Crematorium Chapel on Thursday 26 Nov at 10am. This will be a memorial service only and there can only be a maximum of 25 people inside the crematorium but plenty of room outside for those wishing to attend and pay their respects.

Louis`s passing is a huge loss to all of us golfers in the FNQ and on behalf of all members, committee past and present our deepest sympathies go out to his family.

Rest in peace Louis.

Robin
